HARDWOOD TIMBER

Hardwood decking

Terrace boards (decking) made from South American rocks are distinguished not only by their attractive appearance, but also by their surprisingly high strength and wear resistance, making them ideal for the construction of terraces, swimming pool areas and, in general, open public spaces.

Tropical decking boards are resistant to:

  • exposure to direct sunlight;
  • rotting;
  • insect attacks;
  • high temperature changes;
  • humidity.
  • Ipe (Lapacho, Brazil nut)

    Ipe wood is the best choice for exotic hardwood decks. The service life of Ipe terraces is several decades due to the unsurpassed strength of this rock, which, among other things, has a high degree of fire resistance.

    Ipe
    Scientific name Handroanthus spp.
    Specification S4S, E4E, FAS
    Humidity AD/KD
    Brinell hardness 6.0
    Density 1000 – 1100 kg/m3 at 12% humidity
    Habitat of growth Central and South America
  • Kumaru (Brazilian teak)

    This is a very durable breed that is resistant to rot and insect attacks. In bending tests, massaranduba demonstrates even greater strength than ipe. Despite the high density of wood, massaranduba lends itself well to both manual and mechanical processing.

    Kumaru
    Scientific name Dípteryx odoráta
    Specification S4S, E4E, FAS
    Humidity AD/KD
    Brinell hardness 6.0
    Density 950 – 1000 kg/m3 at 12% humidity
    Habitat of growth Central and South America
  • Massaranduba

    This is a very durable breed that is resistant to rot and insect attacks. In bending tests, massaranduba demonstrates even greater strength than ipe. Despite the high density of wood, massaranduba lends itself well to both manual and mechanical processing.

    Massaranduba
    Scientific name Manilkara bidentata
    Specification S4S, E4E, FAS
    Humidity KD
    Brinell hardness 5.7
    Density 900–1100 kg/m3 at 12% humidity
    Habitat of growth Central and South America
  • Jatoba

    Jatoba wood, like Kumaru, is known for its strength and hardness. When untreated wood is exposed to direct sunlight, jatoba changes its amber color and acquires a dark red-brown hue.

    Jatoba
    Scientific name Hymenaea spp.
    Specification S4S, E4E, FAS
    Humidity KD
    Brinell hardness 4.7
    Density 750–850 kg/m3 at 12% humidity
    Habitat of growth Central and South America
  • Garapa

    Garapa differs from other tropical breeds in its warm golden color, which darkens slightly over time. If the garapa terrace is not treated with anything, under the influence of the sun its color will change to silver-gray.

    Garapa
    Scientific name Handroanthus spp.
    Specification S4S, E4E, FAS
    Humidity AD/KD
    Brinell hardness 6.0
    Density 750–850 kg/m3 at 12% humidity
    Habitat of growth Central and South America
